Commonly Known Thaat In Music


You can think of A thaat as a “Parent scale” in Indian music. The thought of the thaat surely is not exactly same as to the western musical scale since the main purpose of a thaat is not as a tool for music composition, but rather as a basis for categorization of ragas. In this post I have presented total of 32 thaats, with diagram and most suitable fingering you can use. 

01 Bilaval Thaat

In Bilaval thaat notes, used are C D E F G A B i.e Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni Sa and the fingering used is 1 2 3 1 2 3 4 5. It uses all shudhha swaras. Notice that it is similar to a Major Scale in western music.
